Fun & Friendly

Denbow is a company that values fun and being friendly. And today was just another day of many that we were able to find random ways to demonstrate that.

Corey, our part-time staff member has been employed by Denbow for over 5 years now and has grown very comfortable with his responsibilities of shop and wash bay clean-up. And in the spring and summer months, he has an added job of doing a little gardening to keep our yard looking good. On the sunny days, this isn’t such a tough job.

When Corey arrives at work each Thursday, he is sure to stop in at the office with his usual friendly hello. And off to work he goes. Today we had the privilege of watching him sing and dance out in the yard as he gardened. This is always such a joy and gets everyone into good spirits.

Today we also had a little fun with our newest fleet addition. An electric golf cart. Meant to transport parts and people efficiently around our yard. Staff members all took turns touring areas of the property never ventured too. Bill, the president even got left behind by our receptionist as she took the wheel to go on her own little adventure. This little golf cart even got to make it’s first rescue of a vehicle with a flat tire. Car jack in the back and staff members were on route quickly to assist in the flat repair.

So… if you want to take part in our fun and friendly workplace and would like a little tour of the wide variety of activities happening in our buzzing yard, come on by. One of us will be happy to show you around. We even have coffee on at all times or a nice cold bottle of water for the ride.

Technology Flash-back

We have been digging deep into our storage areas here at the Denbow office… spring cleaning!  It’s fun to see how things have changed as we have grown and technology has advanced.  We have discovered some extinct technology in the closets that have given us a blast from the past.  Some younger staff members here don’t even know what the first item is – do you??!

Corey is turning 27 years old in a few weeks.  He loves his birthdays so we make sure that we remember them. 🙂  He also has a lot of interests that keep him quite busy when he is not working at Denbow.   He loves to dance, bowl, listen to music & swim with his many friends.  Corey also has a creative side, writing stories.  ‘Garfield’ is a movie that he really loves “because it’s funny”!  He lives at home with his mom and dad and has an older brother named Richard.

Each week Corey arrives at work with a Tim Hortons coffee in his hands.  Sometimes he even brings a coffee or ice-cap for his two very favorite Denbow co-workers, Ray and Mike.  Corey loves to attend company functions.  We can count on him to dress up for the occasion and bring his enthusiasm with him.

Denbow has been blessed by the opportunity to provide part-time employment to Corey.  We look forward to continuing  to work with him as he grows his workplace skills and shares stories about dances and camps with us.

EMPLOYEE PROFILE: Willetta Les

employee profileWilletta Les

This month we would like to introduce you to our Office Manager, Willetta Les.  We have been blessed to have Willetta on the Denbow team for over twelve years!  To celebrate her 10 year employment at Denbow, we helped her achieve her dream of traveling around Europe early this fall.

Willetta started at Denbow fresh out of the University-College of Fraser Valley after completing a Business Administration Diploma.  Her first role was receptionist.   Through time and experience she has worked her way to her current role of Office Manager.

We have seen Willetta challenge herself to take on many more roles over the years.  She is self-taught in so many areas here at Denbow and learns from others around her.   Because of her keenness to learn, she will often come across as incredibly knowledgeable in the field of all things environmental; even though she has no schooling in it. J  Willetta will never say she ‘can’t’ do something until she has at least given it a try.

Willetta’s passion is anything that requires creativity.  Her favorite tasks are creating brochures, website material, and all other marketing that requires design work.  Because she loves creating things, Willetta and her sister, Leanne started their own business ‘Sister Made’ in which they create canvas’s, photo cards and many other items theysell online and at a variety of craft fairs.   This keeps them very busy and they love it.   You can read more about them here:  Sister Made

She is also called ‘Auntie Willy’ by her 4 nieces and takes this job seriously.   Willetta is appreciated by all her co-workers, friends and family for her generosity and being able to be counted on to help out in any way possible.  If there is ever a need, Willetta is one of the first people you can rely on to be there with a meal, kind words or a very nice hand-crafted card.

We look forward to many more years of working with Willetta.  Who else will keep us inspired to dream about traveling around the world?

employee profile

Dave Slykerman

Dave has worked at Denbow for just over nine years.  He started his career at Denbow as a truck driver, mainly hauling forest-by-products from the BC’s interior to the coast.  Dave proved that he is capable to take on many new challenges along the way.  He has become very versatile and can do almost any operations job within Denbow with ease.  Dave has the ability to run excavator, walking floor, grinders, loaders, blower trucks and the list goes on…

To his fellow employees, Dave is known to be a very good equipment operator as well as very reliable.  He is genuine and also calm under pressure. If you have any idea of the type of work Denbow does, you would understand that it is a very good quality to have.

Outside work, Dave is busy spending time with his wife Kristy and his kids, Mikkaela, Keigan and Cameron.  As a family they enjoy motor biking by the river as well as camping in his faithful and restored classic Winnebago.  Most of Dave’s spare time is spent working on these projects in his new shop (which he hopes to complete soon!).  When he gets out of the shop, he enjoys hunting and fishing.

Thank you, Dave, for your willingness to always help everyone at Denbow!
